Boom Blox: Thunder level refuses to go 'boom'?
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News
Tuesday, 30 December 2008

News

It's pretty awesome that there's still content to be discovered in EA's Boom Blox, which came out in May. Unfortunately, some of the new stuff happens to be apparent game-breaking glitches. Whoops.

Aeropause's Stephen Munn found just such an event in the final level of Tiki Tower Topple, a challenge called "Thunder." He and his friends hucked stuff at the level, to no avail, making sure to destroy seemingly every destructible object in view with bowling balls before turning their attention to the animals standing around (which is a favorite Boom Blox pastime). He thinks the little sliver of gold visible onscreen is another block to knock down, but it's evidently unreachable.

It's kind of surprising to find an unbeatable level after the game has been out so long. Anyone out there experience this glitch? Or have you somehow completed Thunder?

Wii Warm Up: Start all the downloadin'

Wii Warm Up

We suspect that plenty of Wii fans received Wii Points during the recent Holiday Gift-Giving Occasion -- they're relatively cheap, and safe in the same way that gift cards are. If you were among the lucky recipients of some wrapped Points, what did you do with them, or what do you plan to do with them?

Is your sudden windfall going to be shelved for future releases, either known or unknown, or are you taking the opportunity to go through the back catalogue and pick up some VC or WiiWare games you missed? Are you finally getting the rest of Space Invaders Get Even?

A Marble Saga in pictures

Screens

Marble Saga: Kororinpa could end up being a sleeper hit of 2009 -- or at least one of those underappreciated critical successes. The first game was great but a bit lacking in content, and the sequel adds all kinds of junk! There's a four-player mode, leaderboards, a stage editor with online sharing, Balance Board compatibility, and, most importantly (well, not really), a super-adorable storyline about an ant, seen here expressing joy at the completion of a stage.

The new screens at Wiiz are regrettably smallish, but detailed enough for you to see plenty of stuff to roll around on. There's even a screen of the four-player mode!

PSA: Wii slot is for discs only, not credit cards
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News

... not the physical cards. Here's an item of post-holiday hilarity from NeoGAF's HUELEN10. It may stretch credibility a bit, but it's a great story regardless of veracity!

According to HUELEN10, some neighbors with whom he is casually acquainted informed him that they had just given their kids a Wii for Christmas, and then solicited game recommendations. HUELEN10 suggested a few retail games as well as the Sega Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Unfamiliar with the Virtual Console, the mother asked for further explanation, which HUELEN10 offered, saying, among other things, that it requires the user to "put in her credit card when prompted on the Shop Channel, and get the amount of points she wanted."

Which she did, unfortunately. Some time later, the mother called her neighbor, furious that their new Wii had been broken by following his advice. She put the credit cards into the Wii, just like he said.

Right into the disc slot.

And when one didn't work, she went ahead and jammed two more credit cards in there. Now, with three unusable credit cards and one busted Wii, she has demanded that HUELEN10 pay for repairs.

Look forward to a new warning screen on Wii games, right after the Health and Safety screen and the wrist strap warning!

America chooses Nerf over nothin': EA/Hasbro partnership a success
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News
Tuesday, 30 December 2008

News

The agreement between EA and Hasbro has brought us Wii games like Nerf N-Strike (with its awesome Nerf gun peripheral) and Family Game Night. The line of games, across multiple platforms, has just sold over two million total copies, with the Wii games contributing significantly to that total.

Nerf N-Strike has hit #10 on NPD's Wii sales chart since its October release, according to Gamasutra. Family Game Night and Monopoly Here and Now had solid, but unspecified, launch sales as well, and "continue to build momentum," according to EA's Chip Lange.

Really, we're pleased with anything that encourages the combination of Nerf guns with any hobby.
