Metareview: Castlevania Judgment
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News

Metareview

We've said a lot about Castlevania Judgment -- some good, some bad, some after giving it a go. But the time has come to see what's really going on with it, now that it's in circulation. And so, with bated breath, we present ... other people playing Castlevania Judgment, and then talking about it.

Nintendo Power (70/100) says not to expect Castlevania from this Castlevania: "If you forgo your expectations of what a Castlevania game should be--or are simply looking for a respectable 3-D fighting game--you should have a good time with Judgment."

1UP (16/100) kind of, well, hated it: "Beyond the strange art direction, Judgment suffers from jarring mechanics that disregard established fighting conventions. The uncompromising camera displays the action in a bizarre, disconcerting manner that tracks players in a 3D area filled with environmental hazards. And in combat, the camera's way too difficult to control. "

IGN (75/100), however, did not: "The combat is deep and entertaining, the characters are well balanced and very unique as a full-on roster, and everything from sub-weapons to specials, combo attacks, in-level traps and monsters, and epic super attack animations are well done and true to the source material."

A cheap way to get into multiplayer Guitar Heroics
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News
Friday, 21 November 2008

News

Amazon is continuing their apparent campaign to get rid of overstocked Nyko Frontman guitars with a new sale in their "Countdown to Black Friday." The savings are ridiculous. If you don't have a Wii Guitar Hero game and don't mind forgoing the World Tour full band experience (or putting it off while building up a collection of guitars), you could do a lot worse.

If you purchase a copy of Guitar Hero III or Guitar Hero: Aerosmith ($35 each) and add two Frontman guitars ($20 each) to your cart, $20 will be knocked off your order. So you end up with a game and two guitars for just a little more than the normal cost of a retail game.

THQ and Activision kiss and make up
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News

News

Well, not literally, but it would seem that THQ has thrown out its lawsuit against Activision over the boxart for Baja 1000: Score International. Activision has altered the boxart for their game (catch the image past the break), but, seeing as how the game has been available for a short while now, what of the copies that have already reached store shelves? THQ isn't too concerned about that, apparently.

House of the Dead: Overkill gets Euro release date, Collector's Edition
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News
Friday, 21 November 2008

News

Sega will release The House of the Dead: Overkill in Europe next February, and there'll be an optional bonus at "selected retailers" for fans who preorder: this rad Collector's Edition. Arriving in a fetching minimalist slipcase (loving the authentic scuff marks), this collector's edition will come bundled with a graphic novel that tells the stories of Agent Washington and Varla Gunns, and the events that lead up to the game.

Here's the downside: this sweet package has so far only been announced for PAL regions -- apart from Germany, obviously. Sucks to be Germany, eh? Hit up our gallery for a closer look at the comic's cover and a sample page.

Wii to get DiRTy in 2009
Nintendo Wii/Gamecube - Latest News
Friday, 21 November 2008

News

The sequel to 2007's gem of a racing game, DiRT, is going to be releasing on Wii, says Codemasters. What do we say? Yay! We're pumped!

The Wii version will release simultaneously with the other console ports of the game next year, and is to include a "tuned-up car-handling physics system" and "new damage engine effects." We're hoping the game will be solid on the Wii, as it could benefit from the Wiimote. Think Excite Truck, but better.

So, who's excited for DiRT 2 next year?

Wii Warm Up

Christmas: for those who celebrate it, a time of joy, happiness, togetherness, and rampant, ugly consumerism. Love it or hate it, you can't exactly ignore it, so let's talk some more about your plans for this season of "love and laughter and joy" (thanks, Cliff). Which Wii games do you plan to put on your list to Santa, and -- more importantly -- what will you be buying others?
